BRUSSELS – April 6, 2025Belgium will deliver air defense missiles from its own military stockpile to Ukraine as part of its growing support for Kyiv’s efforts to defend against continued Russian aggression. The announcement was made by Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder, who also confirmed a €200 million contribution to a German-led coalition aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities.

The commitment places Belgium among the key European countries actively bolstering Ukraine’s defense infrastructure at a time when air attacks from Russia continue to threaten civilian lives and critical infrastructure.

Speaking to Belgian media outlet RTBF, Minister Dedonder emphasized the importance of continued international solidarity with Ukraine. “Our message remains unchanged. The conflict will end the day Russia stops its invasion and returns illegally occupied territories,” she stated.

The €200 million will be directed into a joint European air defense program initiated by Germany, which seeks to provide modern surface-to-air missile systems and other defensive technologies to Ukraine.

This latest move by Brussels follows recent Belgian promises to deliver 30 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine by 2028 and reflects a broader European trend of stepping up support amid uncertainties in U.S. defense aid.
