OTTAWA — Canada has concluded negotiations with the United States on a pivotal agreement that will allow the country to utilize American space technologies, expertise, and data for launching rockets from Canadian territory. The deal represents a major milestone in Canada’s ambitions to become a global leader in commercial space launches.

According to a government statement, the agreement outlines essential legal and technical safeguards while ensuring proper handling of sensitive U.S. space technologies.

“This agreement brings us one step closer to enabling commercial space launches from Canadian soil,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly. “It’s a defining moment for Canada’s role in the future of space exploration.”

The announcement comes amid increasing collaboration between North American partners despite ongoing tensions in other sectors — such as Canada’s strong opposition to new U.S. steel tariffs.
