The Israeli military has launched an expanded ground offensive in Gaza City, intensifying its operations across the war-torn enclave. On Friday, Israeli army officials confirmed the advancement, stating that ground troops were now active in the area to “expand the security zone” and pressure Hamas militants to release Israeli hostages.
According to local reports, Gazan rescue teams have recorded numerous civilian casualties, with at least 30 people killed on Friday alone. The Civil Defense in Gaza said that 25 individuals died during a targeted assault on the city of Khan Younis, marking one of the deadliest incidents in recent days.
“The army is intensifying its presence in Gaza to dismantle terrorist infrastructure and fight militant forces,” stated Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, echoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claim that the military is successfully dividing the Gaza Strip and regaining territorial control.
The renewed offensive is part of Israel’s strategy to exert maximum pressure on Hamas in an effort to secure the release of remaining hostages. The military push comes amid international concern over the rising humanitarian toll and mounting civilian deaths.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated further with Lebanon, after the armed wing of Hamas operating from Lebanese territory reported the death of commander Hassan Farhat in an Israeli airstrike on Sidon. The Lebanese government condemned the incident as a “flagrant violation of national sovereignty.”
As the situation develops, regional instability continues to grow, with fears of the conflict spreading beyond Gaza’s borders.
