Russia has reportedly begun transferring North Korean long-range artillery systems to the annexed Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, signaling a potential escalation in Pyongyang’s involvement in the ongoing conflict. The report, first published by The Moscow Times and based on findings from German broadcaster ZDF, suggests a new stage in military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.

A recently released ZDF video shows North Korean Koksan self-propelled artillery being transported by train through northern Crimea. Analysts estimate that up to 200 artillery units may have been supplied by North Korea to Russian forces.

Until now, North Korean military equipment had only been spotted in Russia’s Kursk region, where Moscow has engaged in clashes with Ukrainian forces since August 2024. Following recent Russian advances that pushed Ukrainian troops out of large parts of the region, experts believe these weapons may soon be redeployed to the southern front, intensifying attacks in areas like Zaporizhzhia and Kherson.

“If Russia successfully positions this long-range artillery in Zaporizhzhia, they could strike key urban centers and shift the dynamics on the southern front,” warned Western military analysts.

The potential presence of North Korean artillery in Crimea and other southern Ukrainian territories has raised alarms among NATO members and the broader international community, who view the move as a deepening of strategic ties between Russia and North Korea.
