French President Emmanuel Macron has issued a strong call for Russia to cease hostilities and agree to an immediate, unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine, warning against the Kremlin’s continued use of stalling tactics. Speaking during a summit in Cairo focused on Middle East peace efforts, Macron emphasized the urgent need to end the war in Ukraine and secure lasting stability in Europe.

“Russia has not only refused to accept a ceasefire for nearly a month—it has escalated its attacks on civilians,” Macron said on Monday, referencing recent deadly strikes in Ukraine. His remarks come amid growing international pressure for a resolution to the conflict that has raged since February 2022.

Macron expressed support for the ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, calling it a necessary step toward peace and regional security. “We support President Trump’s efforts to bring this war to an end. What we need now is a stable and lasting peace that ensures the safety of Ukraine and all Europeans,” the French president stated.

Macron urged Moscow to abandon what he described as “delaying tactics and posturing” and to fully embrace the ceasefire plan. He noted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had already endorsed the proposal during peace discussions held in Saudi Arabia in March.

“Russia must stop pretending and stop playing games. The time for a serious commitment to peace is now,” Macron added.

The statement reflects France’s growing diplomatic engagement in both Eastern Europe and the Middle East, highlighting Macron’s effort to position France as a mediator in multiple global conflicts.

As the situation on the ground in Ukraine remains volatile, the international community continues to monitor Russia’s response to renewed calls for a ceasefire.
