WASHINGTON, D.C. – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has placed the blame for the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war squarely on the shoulders of President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, claiming that diplomatic solutions could have averted the conflict. Trump made the remarks on Monday via his Truth Social account and during a press appearance at the White House following talks with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, according to Sky News and TASR.
Speaking confidently from the Oval Office, Trump asserted that no such war would have occurred during his presidency, emphasizing his relationships with global leaders. “I had no problem preventing this war,” Trump stated. “Putin respected me, and so did the rest.”
“Millions Dead Because of Three People”
In a sharp rebuke, Trump accused Biden and Zelenskyy of failing to stop the war, calling their actions “horrendous” and “incompetent.” He further alleged that the 2020 U.S. presidential election was rigged, arguing that had he remained in office, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would never have happened.
“Millions have died because of three men,” Trump said, referring to Putin, Biden, and Zelenskyy. While acknowledging Putin’s responsibility, Trump insisted that Biden and Zelenskyy had multiple chances to prevent the conflict. On Zelenskyy, he commented, “When you start a war, you have to know you can win it… You don’t take on someone 20 times your size and then hope for missiles.”
Trump Signals Diplomatic Initiatives
Despite the criticism, Trump suggested that diplomatic progress is underway. He declared that he is “working hard to stop the dying and destruction,” indicating a behind-the-scenes push for peace negotiations. “I think you’re going to see some very good proposals soon,” he told reporters.
Trump’s comments come amid mounting international pressure on the United States to continue military and financial support for Ukraine, as the war enters its fourth year.
