BERLIN – April 28, 2025 – German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan for Ukraine, calling it a “capitulation” and warning that its terms go too far in demanding territorial concessions from Kyiv.
Speaking to Germany’s Tagesschau and quoted by The Guardian and Ukrainska Pravda, Pistorius stated that the conditions suggested in Trump’s proposal offer no added value compared to what might have been accepted a year ago.
“What was included in Trump’s proposal is something Ukraine could have agreed to last year. I see no real improvement,” Pistorius said, underscoring his disappointment with the plan.
The German minister emphasized that any lasting peace agreement must come with solid and enforceable security guarantees for Ukraine, not just temporary political compromises. According to Pistorius, a plan that pressures Ukraine to cede territory without adequate safeguards risks destabilizing Europe and undermining the credibility of Western alliances.
Trump’s proposal has been met with mixed international reactions, with some leaders urging a diplomatic resolution, while others caution against rewarding aggression.
As previously reported by Live World Updates, Trump has been actively pressuring both Kyiv and Moscow to reach a deal, but the details of his plan remain controversial, especially in European capitals.
