Amazon has firmly denied reports suggesting it planned to disclose product price hikes caused by tariffs implemented under U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration. The tech giant called the claims “false” and stressed that no such initiative is underway.

The denial came swiftly after the White House labeled the rumored move as a “hostile and political act.” The initial report, published by Punchbowl News, cited an anonymous source claiming Amazon was preparing to display tariff-related cost increases directly on its retail website.

In a statement issued Tuesday, an Amazon spokesperson clarified that the company never intended to post tariff-related price adjustments on its main retail platform. The spokesperson explained that only a team managing the Amazon Haul discount store briefly considered listing import fees on a limited selection of products.

At a press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated she discussed the matter with President Trump, who reportedly described the alleged Amazon plan as a deliberate political attack. Leavitt added that the move would not be surprising given past allegations; in 2021, Reuters reported that Amazon had partnered with Chinese state media through its China Books project, offering Chinese propaganda publications on its platform.

The controversy highlights the tense relationship between Amazon and Trump’s White House, as trade policies and corporate influence remain highly sensitive topics.
