WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 29, 2025 – U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a controversial executive order directing senior defense and justice officials to examine how the military and national security assets could be used to support domestic law enforcement efforts.

As reported by Mediaite.com, Trump’s order—titled “Strengthening and Deploying U.S. Law Enforcement to Prosecute Criminals and Protect Innocent Civilians”—was delivered Monday to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The order instructs both officials to determine how to best utilize military personnel, training, and non-lethal capabilities to prevent and respond to criminal activity within the United States. The two departments have been given 90 days to submit a comprehensive plan.

“The president’s directive also calls for legal protections for law enforcement personnel and the prosecution of local or state officials who unlawfully obstruct federal enforcement operations,” the report states.

The move has sparked immediate debate in Washington, with civil liberties groups raising concerns about the potential militarization of law enforcement and the blurred lines between civilian policing and military action.

Critics say the measure echoes elements of past executive actions that raised constitutional questions regarding the Posse Comitatus Act, which limits the use of federal troops for domestic purposes.
