Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that 2026 will be a “decisive year” for institutional transformation. The reform of the justice system remains a top priority, with authorities conducting external vetting of judges and prosecutors to restore public trust in state institutions. Brussels has repeatedly underlined that progress in rule of law reforms will determine the pace of accession negotiations.
At the same time, Moldova faces continued geopolitical pressure due to its proximity to Ukraine and the unresolved Transnistrian conflict. Officials stress that EU integration is not only an economic choice but also a strategic security decision.
Public opinion polls show sustained support for European integration, particularly among younger voters and urban populations. However, the government must balance reform momentum with economic challenges, including inflation and energy vulnerability.
Observers note that Moldova’s progress will depend on political stability and the government’s ability to maintain public support while implementing difficult structural changes.
