Austria is reeling after the shocking murder of 31-year-old influencer Stefanie Pieper, whose disappearance last week ignited a massive search that ended in tragedy. Authorities confirmed Saturday that her ex-boyfriend has confessed to killing her, transporting her body across the border, and burying her in a remote Slovenian forest.

A Chilling Confession Behind a High-Profile Disappearance

Pieper, a well-known content creator from Graz (Štýrský Hradec), vanished without a trace on Sunday, November 23, after returning home from a Christmas party. When she failed to show up for a scheduled photoshoot the next morning, concern quickly escalated.

Her photographer, who went to her apartment to check on her, instead found her 31-year-old former partner inside the flat. The man, known to police from earlier inquiries, claimed Pieper was not there. But what the photographer saw next raised red flags: blood stains on the walls.

He immediately alerted authorities.

Police soon found Pieper’s mobile phone discarded in nearby bushes, deepening suspicion that she had met with foul play.

The Ex-Boyfriend’s Grim Admission

According to German daily Bild, the suspect eventually confessed to investigators, stating that he strangled Pieper, placed her body in the trunk of his car, and drove to Slovenia, where he buried her in a wooded area near his hometown.

Austrian investigators coordinated with Slovenian authorities, locating the grave late Saturday.

Pieper’s body will now be transported back to Graz for autopsy.

Family Members Detained—Then Released

In the course of the investigation, police arrested the suspect’s brother and stepfather on Thursday. However, both were later released after authorities found no evidence they were involved.

“It is not likely they had any role in the crime,” spokesperson Christian Kroschl from the Graz prosecutor’s office told Kronen Zeitung.

The focus remains solely on the ex-boyfriend, who reportedly works as a poker player and part-time security guard.

Clues That Painted a Dark Picture

One of the most disturbing elements of the case emerged from Pieper’s final messages. According to Heute and Daily Mail, shortly after returning from the Christmas party—where her former partner was also present—Pieper sent a chilling text to a friend:

“There’s some strange man on the staircase.”
Moments later, she added: “There’s a dark figure outside my apartment.”

These were her last known communications.

Neighbors told police they heard loud noises coming from her apartment on the night she vanished. Another resident reported seeing the ex-boyfriend on the building’s staircase around the same time.

A Crime That Shook Austria and Slovenia

Pieper’s disappearance mobilized local police, social media communities, and media outlets across Austria. For days, followers and friends hoped she would be found alive.

Instead, the influencer’s case became one of the year’s most disturbing cross-border homicides.

Authorities now aim to reconstruct the timeline, confirm the cause of death, and determine whether the suspect acted alone. He remains in custody and is expected to face charges of murder, unlawful transport of a body, and concealment of a corpse.

A Tragic Ending to a Public Life

As tributes pour in from her fans and colleagues, the Graz community mourns a vibrant personality whose life was cut short by violence. Social media platforms flooded with messages expressing heartbreak, shock, and calls for justice.

Police are urging the public not to engage in speculation as the investigation continues.

Stefanie Pieper leaves behind a digital legacy—and a country now demanding answers about how such a horrific crime could happen.
