Economic relations between South Korea and the European Union have grown steadily over the past decade. The EU–South Korea Free Trade Agreement significantly boosted bilateral trade, investment flows, and regulatory cooperation.

Today, South Korea is one of the EU’s key Asian economic partners. Cooperation extends beyond traditional trade to advanced sectors such as semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries, renewable energy, and digital innovation. Both sides are working to strengthen supply chain resilience and reduce strategic vulnerabilities in critical industries.

For Europe, South Korea represents a technologically advanced and politically stable partner in East Asia. For Seoul, the EU offers access to one of the world’s largest single markets and a strong regulatory partner in areas such as climate policy and digital governance.

North Korea, due to ongoing sanctions, remains largely excluded from such economic integration. However, any long-term stabilization of inter-Korean relations could reshape regional infrastructure and trade connectivity, potentially influencing broader Europe-Asia economic dynamics.
