Employees at a small vintage clothing shop in Prague found themselves at the center of an unexpected celebrity encounter this week after inadvertently declining to sell an item to Julia Roberts, one of Hollywood’s most recognizable film stars. The incident, reported by Czech media including TN.cz, unfolded in the city’s Nusle district, where Roberts has been spending time while filming an undisclosed project.

According to a statement posted by the boutique 1981Secondhand on Instagram, the shop’s employee did not initially recognize Roberts when she attempted to purchase several items. One of the pieces lacked a price tag, prompting the staff member to follow store policy and refuse the sale — even after Roberts reportedly offered to “pay anything” for the item.

The exchange, described by the shop as both surprising and amusing, was later resolved when the actress’s assistant returned to complete the purchase once the item was properly labeled. “In the end, everything worked out,” the store wrote, framing the moment as an unusual brush with fame rather than a source of embarrassment.

Roberts, best known for films including Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich and Notting Hill, has been in Prague for several weeks for a production that has not yet been publicly identified. While details about the project remain confidential, her presence has drawn attention from both fans and local media, particularly as she spends time exploring the Czech capital.

Local outlets reported that, in addition to her stop at the secondhand shop, Roberts visited Prague’s historic center, several boutiques and at least one restaurant during a day off from filming. The visit underscores the city’s growing status as a hub for international film production, with studios and streaming platforms increasingly choosing Prague for its architecture, skilled crews and cost advantages.

Incidents involving celebrities going unrecognized in everyday settings are not uncommon in European capitals, where public figures often move with relative anonymity compared to Hollywood. Still, the episode sparked lighthearted discussion online, particularly because Roberts’s most famous role in Pretty Woman includes a memorable shopping scene — a coincidence not lost on Czech social media users.

As filming continues, Roberts is expected to remain in Prague, though the production has not released further details. For now, the vintage shop’s unexpected guest has offered the city a moment of international publicity — and a story its employees are unlikely to forget.
