In a dramatic escalation of diplomatic pressure, former U.S. President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Israel on Monday, urging the country to avoid actions that could destabilize Syria’s fragile new government. The message comes just days after Israeli forces launched another deadly strike in southern Syria, killing 13 people and fueling fresh regional uncertainty.

Trump Calls for ‘Strong and Honest Dialogue’

Posting on his social platform Truth Social, Trump emphasized that Israel must maintain “a strong and honest dialogue with Syria”, stressing that nothing should hinder Syria’s efforts to rebuild after more than a decade of civil war.

Trump praised the leadership of Syria’s interim president Ahmad Shara, who last month made a historic visit to Washington — a visit the former president hailed as a turning point in U.S.–Syria relations.

According to AFP, Trump fully supports ongoing discussions surrounding a potential Israel–Syria security agreement, part of a broader post-Assad stabilization strategy. Assad was removed from power a year ago, marking a seismic shift in Middle Eastern geopolitics.

Israeli Strikes Fuel Rising Tension

Despite the diplomatic overtures, Israel has continued its longstanding pattern of military operations inside Syria. Tensions surged again on Friday when Israeli forces targeted the village of Beit Jin, claiming they were striking members of the militant group Jamaa Islamiyah.

The attack reportedly killed 13 people, drawing renewed criticism and deepening concerns that Israel’s actions could derail Syria’s slow path toward recovery.

Trump noted that Shara is working “tirelessly” to cultivate stable relations and build a long-term partnership between the two nations — a relationship Trump argues could reshape the security landscape of the Middle East.

Washington Pushes for Syrian Reconstruction

The former president reiterated that the United States is “doing everything in its power” to support Syria’s reconstruction and stabilize the country following years of war and political collapse.

He stressed that future peace in the region — including the fragile cease-fire in the Gaza Strip — depends on ensuring Syria’s government can rebuild without external disruption.

A Critical Moment for Middle Eastern Diplomacy

With Israel pressing ahead militarily and Washington pushing for diplomatic restraint, the stakes could not be higher. Trump’s unusually direct warning signals growing U.S. concern that renewed conflict could undermine broader efforts to secure stability across the Middle East.

Whether Israel recalibrates its strategy remains to be seen — but Trump has made his position unmistakably clear:
Syria’s reconstruction cannot be sacrificed for short-term military objectives.
