In a bizarre early-morning scene straight out of a comedy script, employees at a supermarket in Ledeč nad Sázavou arrived on Sunday to find an unexpected customer: a 34-year-old man sound asleep on a crate of bottled beer, right in front of the checkout lanes.

But police say there was nothing funny about how he got there.

A Night of Drinking Ends in a Violent Break-In

According to police spokesperson Dana Čírtková, the man had been drinking heavily at a party before stumbling to the store and forcing his way inside.
He allegedly kicked in one of the main entrance doors, breaking it completely.

Once inside, he wandered through the quiet supermarket, made his way to the checkout area, and threw shopping baskets around before returning to the beer crates — where he finally sat down and passed out cold.

Damage, Charges, and a Very Unusual Wake-Up Call

The supermarket owner faces an estimated 40,000 CZK (about €1,600) in damages.
Police say the man is now facing potential charges of:

  • Burglary
  • Property damage
  • Public disorder

Officers took him into custody after waking him up — a task that reportedly took considerable effort given his level of intoxication.

This strange incident has quickly become a topic of local chatter, but authorities remind the public: mixing alcohol with crime rarely ends well, even if the suspect doesn’t make it past the beer aisle.
