Jamaica is slamming the brakes on unrestricted travel, rolling out some of its toughest pandemic entry rules yet. Anyone flying to the Caribbean island — tourists, returning residents, or business travelers — must now meet a series of strict health requirements before they’re even allowed to leave the airport.

Negative Test Required Before Arrival

According to the Slovak Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, all travelers must present a negative COVID-19 test no older than 72 hours before departure. In addition, every passenger is required to complete a pre-authorization process on the official website visitjamaica.com/travelauthorization.

Upon landing, health officials will take each traveler’s temperature and conduct a brief medical screening interview to assess symptoms.

Registration Window Is Tight

Jamaica’s government warns that travelers must register no earlier than five days and no later than two business days before arrival. The approval process can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours, meaning late planners risk being denied entry.

Business travelers face even tougher rules: they must present a negative test no older than ten days and undergo a rapid test at the airport, paid out of pocket. Until results come in, they must remain in quarantine.

Tourists Face Zoned Restrictions and Possible Isolation

Tourists can also be tested at the airport, with results delivered while they wait in their accommodation. Anyone testing positive will be placed in isolation, either at designated tourist facilities or in government medical centers.

A new zoning system further tightens the rules:

  • Travelers staying in “safe zones” — approved tourist corridors — are exempt from the 14-day quarantine.
  • Those staying in “risk zones” may be tested at the airport but must undergo a full 14-day quarantine after arrival.

Jamaica’s message is clear: tourism is open, but only under strict, closely monitored conditions designed to keep COVID-19 out — and keep the island safe.
