Spanish police have dismantled a violent neo-Nazi cell tied to The Base, an international white supremacist organization designated as a terrorist group by the European Union, the U.K., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Officials say the group was preparing for armed conflict and promoting a racist ideology aimed at sparking a so-called “race war.”

The arrests mark one of Spain’s most significant counterterrorism operations against far-right extremism in recent years.

A Terror Network Built for Violence

Founded in the United States in 2018 by American extremist Rinaldo Nazzaro, The Base operates as a loose confederation of paramilitary cells across multiple countries.
According to Spain’s national police, the organization recruits followers online, indoctrinates them with extremist ideology, and trains them to carry out potential attacks.

Nazzaro later relocated to St. Petersburg, Russia, where analysts say he obtained Russian citizenship — a development that has raised concerns among Western intelligence agencies.

Spanish Police Strike Hard

Authorities confirmed that three suspects were arrested last week in the eastern province of Castellón, including the cell’s alleged leader.
He now faces charges of:

  • membership in a terrorist organization
  • recruitment and indoctrination
  • paramilitary training for terrorist purposes
  • illegal weapons possession

During coordinated raids, police seized firearms, ammunition, and other materials connected to The Base’s extremist activities.

Officers say the dismantled cell was part of a broader transnational structure designed to execute violent attacks and mobilize supporters for extremist causes.

Europe Tightens Its Grip on Far-Right Terrorism

The crackdown comes as European security services intensify their efforts to stop the spread of violent far-right networks.
Last year, the European Union formally added The Base to its terrorist blacklist, imposing financial restrictions and asset freezes on the organization.

Spanish officials warn that decentralized extremist groups like The Base pose an increasingly global threat, especially as they exploit online platforms to expand recruitment.

A Clear Message From Spain

Authorities say the operation sends a strong message to violent extremist groups attempting to establish footholds in Europe: Spain will not tolerate terrorism in any form.

The investigation remains ongoing as police analyze seized data and look for potential accomplices elsewhere in the country.
