In a stunning shake-up across social media, platform X has launched a powerful new transparency tool — and it’s already exposing a global web of misleading accounts pretending to be American conservatives, pro-Trump influencers, and even war-zone journalists. The revelations have triggered a political storm from Washington to Bratislava.
The new feature, “About This Account,” reveals the region from which users frequently log in. And the results are explosive: Some of the loudest voices claiming to be U.S.-based Trump supporters are actually posting from Nigeria, India, and Bangladesh, according to BBC.
Pro-Trump Fan Accounts Operating From Africa and Asia
One of the biggest surprises is the account IvankaNews, a supposed U.S.-based fan page of Ivanka Trump with over a million followers. The account often claims support for Donald Trump and the MAGA movement — yet X now shows it is operated from Nigeria.
Another account, TRUMP ARMY, shared by the former president himself just two days ago, is actually run out of India. Its owner quickly updated their profile to:
“Indian who loves America, President Trump, and Musk!”
A popular handle named America First, posing as a young American woman and fervent Trump supporter, is in reality operated from Bangladesh.
X executives claim the new feature is 99% accurate, though they acknowledge temporary travel may affect the location displayed.
Slovak Politician Posting From Russia Goes Viral
One of the most controversial findings involves Štefan Harabin, former Slovak presidential candidate and long-time pro-Russia figure. His X account is now labeled as accessed from “Russian Federation Android App.”
Harabin insists it’s the result of attending a conference in Moscow from November 19-21, where he logged in using local Wi-Fi. Critics aren’t convinced, noting his statements praising Russia and opposing aid to Ukraine.
Fake Influencers Exposed Worldwide
Political marketer Jakub Horák says the update is crushing entire ecosystems of fake online personas:
- Alleged Gaza residents posting from Islamabad
- Supposed Palestinian journalists posting from Ireland
- A “poet writing by candlelight in Deir al-Balah” actually posting from Chelyabinsk, Russia
Horák calls it the collapse of a “global influencer fraud industry.”
A New Era of Transparency — or a New Battlefield?
Elon Musk’s platform argues the feature strengthens transparency. Critics say it could become a geopolitical weapon, revealing sensitive information and sparking international outrage.
Either way, X has changed the game — and millions of accounts may now face tough questions about who they really are.
